Description

WORD FACTORY PRESENTS:

Metaphor and the imagination with K.J.Orr.

Drawing on work by Julio Cortázar, David Means and Alice Munro among others, we will be asking: what does belonging mean for readers and writers of short fiction? What of the boundary crossings of the imagination? We will discuss the way writers engage with metaphor to disrupt the familiar, and reflect on the dialogue this disruption offers the reader. There will be group discussion and close reading of the text with the 2016 winner of the BBC Short Story Award.

A seminar-style discussion with no writing exercises.

Class limited to 20 places.
